You just have to know what you're looking for, and don't expect a used car to be absolutely perfect. You'd be better off looking for a 'guaranteed' used car from a reputable dealer.|||Find a dealer that has guarantees vehicles for a certain amount of time. You need to ask them over the phone if there area any faults and remind them that by law they have to disclose that information to any prospective buyers. Any secondhand car (as well as some new ones!) will have faults. It just depends on how fussy you are and how deep you look. Another reason is people tend to get a make/model in their head and go looking for it, based on the lowest prices they have seen on AutoTrader, or similar. Sometimes you need to spend more, for the same-age vehicle, to get one of superior quality. Although higher price, in itself, is still not a cast-iron guarantee. Sometimes you just have to accept that the car has a few faults - not expensive, or dangerous ones, of course - buy it and then deal with them at a later date, or use as a bargaining point on sale price.
