My girlfriend has a Canon iP4600 inkjet printer which gives out the following error message when any form of printing is attempted:
A printer error has occurred.
Turn the printer off and unplug the power cord of the printer from the power supply.
Then contact the service center.
The two lights on the front of the printer are continuously alternately flashing (green and orange). Does anyone have any idea what the possible cause of this error might be?
I have attempted the old 'turn it off and on' trick, uninstalling and reinstalling the device and still nothing.
Her OS is Windows 7 64-bit!|||I suggest doing exactly what it told you to do?|||inkjet cartridges|||does it give you an error code as well?
If the code is 6A80 then it usually means that the print head is either locked or has actually failed.
Open the top and the cartridge access and see if you can get the cradle to move toward you.
If it doesn't move then have a look inside and see if something is perhaps jammed against the slide, if there is then remove it, or at least move it out of the way.
If it does move OK then remove all the cartridges, put them on a carrier bag in case they leak.
You need to clean the contacts on the cartridges and inside the machine as well, use a damp cloth or paper towel, be careful not to get ink on your fingers, it will stain.
Then turn off the machine and unplug it for at least one and a half minutes.
Plug it back it in and power on, wait for the "insert cartridges" message
Insert the cartridges and check to see if the problem is still there, if it is then it often means the print head has failed and needs to be replaced, sadly this often costs more to replace than buying a printer.|||RTFM (Read the "Fine" Manual).
