By only spawning the betta with the longest fins, it soon becomes a common trait within that betta breeder's fish. To get a betta with such nice finnage you would have to order or buy it from a breeder. Betta fins keep growing as they age, while your betta may not receive the massive fins that a specially bred betta has, they may get pretty darn close.
