I know roughly but can't really explain it. Could anyone give me a simple, solid definition?|||Its for safety if theres a fault with a metal electrical item like a microwave then instead of the microwave cover becoming live it would short out the fuse basically the earth leads the the ground, if there was no earth then the cover could be live and you wouldn't know until you touched it and get a 240v shock
