Suppose a referee sends a player off just before half time, then the team come back out and there are 13 players on the pitch. The original 12 plus one of the substitutes. The referee doesn't notice, then ten minutes in to the match, the opposing team's coach notices and tells the referee. What should the referee do next?|||i personally would red card both the player and manager but i'm not a rugby league ref or know much about it why when did this happen?|||The ref should get on with the game|||Are we talking a send off (red card) or temporary suspension (yellow card)
In the case of a yellow, given that the ten minute period has now elapsed, the referee should do nothing - it is not his place to do anything.
Granted, he made a mistake, but he cannot change a ruling because the coach tells him about it, anymore than he could rule a knock on because a player says so.
The coach should complain to the competition organisers and seek resolution that way.
If the original send off was a red, then the referee should immediately send the player who shouldn't be there off, and award a penalty to the other team. That's it, he can't make up his own laws or somehow try to seek vengeance on behalf of the aggrieved coach.
His job is to referee the game according to the laws - and that's all.|||In Australia, the extra player would be sent off and the club would receive a massive fine from the NRL and possible loss of competition points.|||Keep them at 12 players for the rest of the game imo - I'm sure management would also get a hefty fine depending on how important the game is i.e Knockout stages
